When Amanda asked me recently if I wanted to put up some photographs at Cups & Chapters Cafe, I needed to think for a minute. I had ideas about my work and wasn’t ready to show it to the world. I thought…

I also realized that I had been telling this story to myself for a while.

In my considerations things fell in place. I noticed a familiarity amongst a number of images that I had taken since I moved into the neighborhood, while waiting for ‘bigger things to happen’ and for no particular reason.

The photos have a sense of now, but they were also made ‘right here’ at walking distance from the Cafe. Without a plan or a specific purpose.

‘In Vicinity’ is an invitation to look closer. It may happen right in front of us. At this very moment, while we are making plans for tomorrow.

The title does not only illustrate my self-undermining process, but is also an illustrative analogy for this occasional series.

For me, this is a full circle story. My work is on display for the first time, and it couldn’t be more in place than at my favorite coffee bar.
